The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to take action against the Electoral Commission (EC) due to the delay in releasing the provisional voter register for the December elections. The party had requested that the EC provide the provisional register in time for the planned exhibition exercise.

The EC had assured the NDC that the register would be delivered by Friday, August 16, 2024. However, when NDC representatives visited the EC office on the specified date, they were informed that the register was not yet available.

In an interview with Citi News, Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy IT Director of the NDC, expressed frustration over the delay and suggested that the party might mobilize public protests if the register is not released promptly.

“We were told the register was not ready and that they would call us when it is,” Tanko Computer said. “This is grossly unfair. We have information that the 2024 register, including updates from 2023, has already been printed. So why the delay?”

Tanko Computer called on the public to pressure the EC to release the register immediately, stating, “With only four days until the exhibition, it is unacceptable to withhold the register from a major political party. If the EC does not comply, we will consider staging a protest. It is our legal right to access this information under the C.I.”
