Nana Yaa Jantuah, a former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has revealed that she is facing significant pressure to establish her own political party. This follows a period of upheaval within the CPP that led to her and others being removed from their roles.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen, Jantuah shared that she is being urged by various individuals, including some Nkrumahists, to start a new political party. Despite this, she has resisted these calls.
“I am under intense pressure to form a new party, and some people are even encouraging me to do so,” Jantuah said. However, she emphasized her reluctance, stating, “I have decided against it because it would only deepen divisions within the CPP.”
Jantuah expressed disappointment over the growing disassociation from the Nkrumah legacy and called for unity within the CPP. “It’s disheartening to see people distancing themselves from our founding principles. We need to come together and strengthen the CPP,” she urged. She also questioned the ongoing internal conflicts within the party, stating, “I wonder why there are always squabbles in the party.”
