The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has successfully conducted a multi-region crackdown on illicit narcotics and substances during the Easter holidays, resulting in a significant seizure of drugs and cannabis-infused products.
In a coordinated operation, NACOC deployed K9 units to various locations across the country, aiming to disrupt the distribution and use of narcotics during a time when many people engage in festivities. The operation took place in key areas such as Ashaiman, Circle, Avenor, Labadi, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, and Kwahu-Mpraeso, with narcotics, including marijuana, hashish, and cannabis-infused beverages, being seized in various locations.
According to NACOC, the seizures were part of their ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking, abuse, and the growing illicit market for cannabis-based products. The operation’s success highlights NACOC’s commitment to reducing the availability of dangerous substances in local communities and preventing their distribution, especially during times of high social activity, like the Easter period.
A NACOC spokesperson commended the efforts of the K9 units and officers who worked tirelessly to track down and apprehend individuals attempting to smuggle and distribute illegal substances. “This operation is a reminder of our commitment to protecting the public from the dangers of narcotics. We will continue to step up our efforts to ensure a safer environment for all,” the spokesperson stated.
NACOC also emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drugs. As the crackdown continues, the commission remains focused on reducing the availability of narcotics, promoting awareness of the harmful effects of drug use, and encouraging healthy lifestyles among the youth and general public.
Authorities say the operation will not be the last, as they plan to expand their efforts to more regions in the coming months to curb the growing drug trade in the country.
