Kumawood actor Wayoosi has apologised following his recent remarks, saying his intention was not to offend but to draw attention to challenges within the industry.
“I want to apologise if my previous words hurt anyone. My intention wasn’t to insult, but to highlight the challenges we face, especially when we the Kumawood actors are underrated,” he said in a new post sighted by MyNewsGh.
His comments come after tensions at a filmmakers’ summit in Kumasi, where several industry players, including Mercy Asiedu, openly expressed concerns about the state of the Kumawood film industry and how stakeholders are being treated.
Wayoosi maintained that the concerns raised were driven by a desire to see the industry grow. “Kumawood has given us so much, and it’s time we give back. My passion for this industry drove me to speak out,” he explained.
He also called for respect and recognition for actors within the sector. “We won’t sit back and watch Kumawood actors be disrespected. We deserve better,” he added.
The actor further noted that the industry has produced many talented individuals who are often overlooked. “Kumawood has produced some of the most talented actors, and it’s unfair we are often overlooked,” he said, ending with gratitude, “Yɛda mo ase.”
