Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, has vehemently assured Ghanaians that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not hand over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections. Speaking at an NPP unity walk in Mpraeso on April 8, 2023, Acheampong stated that the NPP would use all necessary measures available to ensure that they retain power.
The Minister highlighted the NPP’s “we have the men” mantra, which he claims is manifested in their ability to use brutal force and threats to win elections. He warned the NDC against adopting such strategies, stating that the NPP would teach them a lesson in the 2024 elections. Acheampong was confident that the NDC is on the verge of collapse and that the NPP would show them that “we have the men.”
Acheampong also addressed the challenges faced by the country, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to economic difficulties. He stated that the NDC tried to use these challenges to discredit the government but measures were in place to reverse the situation, which is already yielding results. The economy has revived, with the dollar dropping from ¢17 to ¢10, and petrol sold at ¢9 instead of ¢17.
The MP expressed confidence that the economy would be fully revived by July after the nation’s bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) falls through. With all the right indications going into the 2024 elections, Acheampong declared that the NPP was going to win the polls hands down.
He warned the NDC against using threats, stupidity, or brute force in the elections, stating that the NPP would adopt any means necessary to ensure victory. The Minister ended his address with a charged statement in Twi, declaring that the NPP would never hand over power to the NDC.
