Hugo Lloris, a mainstay for Tottenham, was reportedly a target for CHELSEA last month, according to reports.

The Frenchman spent five and a half years in North London working under Mauricio Pochettino.

At Tottenham, Hugo Lloris and Mauricio Pochettino collaborated for more than five years.

Lloris, 36, has one year left on his Spurs deal.

But he is no longer a member of the first team and is looking for a transfer.

The Telegraph claims that Chelsea got in touch with the former captain of Tottenham last month about a possible deal.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was supposed to start the season as the Blues’ first-choice goalkeeper, and new acquisition Robert Sanchez was supposed to serve as their backup.

However, on the eve of the new season, they permitted Kepa to join Real Madrid after the Spanish giants’ backup goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was seriously injured.

As a result, Sanchez was elevated to the No. 1 spot, and the Blues surprisingly began searching for a new goalkeeper.

According to reports, they were considering a deal for Lloris in which he would have relocated across London to rejoin his former manager Pochettino.

In the end, they decided against it and decided to sign Djorde Petrovic from the New England Revolution instead.

Ben Roberts, Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, suggested Petrovic.

Meanwhile, Lloris’s future is still up in the air.

The seasoned stopper skipped Spurs’ preseason tour to hunt for a job after speaking with Ange Postecoglou at the start of the preseason.

Since the transfer fell through, Lloris is still working out at Hotspur Way.

He is unlikely to be included in Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League roster should he stay there past tonight’s deadline.

Guglielmo Vicario, a recent acquisition, has taken his spot as Spurs’ first choice.

As a substitute, Fraser Forster was chosen to play Tuesday’s League Cup match against Fulham.

Lloris moved to Tottenham from Lyon in 2012, and in 2015 he was named the first team captain, a position he would maintain for eight years.

He represented Tottenham in a total of 447 games, serving as their captain in the 2019 Champions League final.

The distinguished goalkeeper captained France to World Cup victory in 2018 and amassed 145 appearances for Les Bleus before retiring following the competition in Qatar in 2017.

At Spurs, Guglielmo Vicario now serves as the first choice.
