Respected Academic and Founder of the Millar Open University, Prof David Millar has stated that he trusts the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama to put Ghana on the path of growth and prosperity rather than Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He explained that given that the former President will have just a four-year term to serve, he is better placed to make tough decisions and will turn things around than any other candidate who will have to think of winning another term.
He stressed that between the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Mahama, he would settle on John Mahama as the one who could do what it would take to transform Ghana.
He added that John Mahama having been President before must have learnt his lessons and can be a much better leader when elected again.
“John Mahama has only four years [ to serve as President when he is elected]. So if you ask me to look between the two[ Former President John Mahama and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia], I will put my account on him[ John Mahama] because he has a four-year term to work in such a way that he works himself out four years and the system runs.
But if you go to babysit the system, it’s going to be no hope,” he explained in an interview with Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM recently.
Prof Millar made the argument while speaking on the developmental challenges of the country and what leaders ought to do to ensure Ghana progresses. For him, a bold decisive leader is needed and the prevailing circumstances make John Mahama the best bet for Ghana.
