Mahama Becoming a ‘Guru’ in Speech Delivery – Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah

The Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has described President John Dramani Mahama as a “guru” in the delivery of public speeches, praising the President’s clarity of vision and consistent focus on national development.

Speaking on the sidelines of Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Jubilee House on Thursday, Afriyie-Ankrah said the President has demonstrated exceptional precision and purpose in his public addresses.

According to him, from the President’s recent State of the Nation Address to other public speeches delivered since assuming office, Mahama has consistently communicated a clear and focused message centred on the progress and transformation of the country.

“Right from the State of the Nation Address to every public speech he has delivered, the President has always been on point. He leaves nothing void and you can clearly see that his soul is deeply committed to the progress of the nation,” Afriyie-Ankrah stated.

He noted that the President repeatedly emphasises the need for Ghanaians to remain hardworking and consistent in order to realise the country’s development aspirations.

Afriyie-Ankrah used an analogy to explain the current economic direction of the government. He likened the state of the economy when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed office to a field overgrown with weeds and small trees — representing challenges such as inflation, the high dollar exchange rate and elevated interest rates.

“These were obstacles standing in the way of economic growth,” he explained. “The first responsibility was to clear the field by removing those weeds and barriers so that investors and businesses could operate freely.”

He said the government has focused on addressing these economic fundamentals in order to create an enabling environment for businesses, entrepreneurs and industrial players.

According to him, the recently passed 24-hour economy policy is expected to open new avenues for both local and international investors, ultimately generating employment and economic opportunities for the Ghanaian youth.

Afriyie-Ankrah, however, stressed that it would be unrealistic to expect all of Ghana’s challenges to be resolved within a year.

“It is unrealistic to think that within one year the President would have solved all the problems of Ghanaians. National challenges are resolved in stages,” he said.

He explained that the current phase focuses on correcting the fundamentals to prepare the country for what he described as a “major economic take-off”.

“That is why the President asked recently whether Ghanaians are ready for take-off,” he added.

The presidential envoy also expressed optimism about the country’s economic outlook, noting that Ghana’s performance has been positively recognised by major international credit rating agencies.

He further pointed to improvements in the cost of living as an example of the benefits citizens could experience when economic conditions stabilise.

“For instance, if someone previously spent GH₵1,000 on fuel and now spends GH₵600, it means there are savings. That is a practical way of seeing that the economy and the system are working to the benefit of Ghanaians,” he said.

Afriyie-Ankrah concluded by calling for sustained national unity and prayers for the continued success of policies that are beginning to yield tangible results.
