TEXT: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
MEMORY VERSE: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)
As a believer in Christ, one of the greatest blessings you have received is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not a force or an influence, but a person who has been sent by God to lead you into all truth and to guide you into right living. As Romans 8:14 states, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
The primary way that the Holy Spirit leads you into right living is through faith. You need to trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and to reveal the will of God to you. As you study the Bible, pray, and seek the Lord, the Holy Spirit will give you understanding and direction. You will begin to discern what is right and what is wrong, what is pleasing to God and what is not.
But there is another way that the Holy Spirit leads you into right living, and that is through peace. When you are living in obedience to God, there is a peace that passes all understanding that fills your heart and mind. It is a deep sense of contentment and joy that comes from knowing you are in the will of God. Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
When you are doing something that is not right, that peace will be missing. You will feel uncomfortable, restless, and agitated. This is the Holy Spirit’s way of warning you that you are heading in the wrong direction. As a child of God, you should learn to pay attention to this warning and stop immediately or change course.
So if you find yourself in a situation where you are not experiencing the peace of God, take a moment to pause and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Ask Him to reveal to you what you need to do to get back on track. As you listen and obey, you will find that the Holy Spirit will lead you into right living, and you will experience the joy and peace that comes from living in the will of God.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth and leads us into right living. We ask that you would help us to trust and follow Him always, so that we may experience the peace and joy that comes from living in your will. Give us the wisdom and discernment to recognize when we are heading in the wrong direction and the courage to make the necessary changes. May we always seek to live in a way that brings glory to your name. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
