Kumawu By-Elections: The seat should automatically be given to the NPP to save money and time – political analyst opines
Following the demise of the Late Hon.Philip Atta Basoa, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu constituency, the electoral commission has earlier declared 23rd May 2023 for by-election as constitution demand but Mr. Samuel Boateng, a political Analyst has opined that the seat should be given to the NPP parliamentary candidate to save money and time for enough preparation towards the 2025 general elections since the time left is limited.
Mr. Samuel Boateng, speaking in an interview with Kwaku Mensah Abrampa On High Radio Breakfast Show dubbed High Morning Breeze indicated that the competitiveness of By-Elections in Ghana mostly depends on swing constituencies where both reigning political parties see it feasible to win with little effort put in place but the case of Kumawu is different with the seat been won by the NPP over the years with an independent candidate who switched from the NPP gaining more votes than the NDC parliamentary candidate during the 2020 general elections hence the need for NDC and other political parties to pre-concede defeat and give way for the NPP candidate to save money and also provide ample time for preparation towards the upcoming general elections in 2024 indicating that it is obvious the NPP will win the pending by-elections with a larger margin.
Mr. Samuel Boateng was optimistic the NPP will massively win the Kumawu by-elections despite the tough time the independent candidate caused in the 2020 general elections against the late Philip Basoa indicating that the voters will sympathize with the NPP for losing a sitting member of parliament by honoring them with what he termed as sympathy votes.
He revealed that the incumbent party has won most by-elections conducted in Ghana as a result of the sympathy votes for the affected political party.
