Kennedy Agyapong Jnr., the son of outgoing Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, has opened up about a personal experience that left him feeling disappointed.
In an interview with Andy Dosty monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the young entrepreneur shared how his attempt to seek help from his father during a challenging situation was met with a response he didn’t expect.
The incident unfolded when Kennedy Agyapong Jnr. visited Ghana, only to find himself in a difficult spot at Kotoka International Airport.
He had overstayed his visa, unaware that his stay had been limited to just 60 days, despite having a five-year visa. “I thought I was fine, assuming my visa was valid for five years. But when I got to the airport, the immigration officers informed me that I had overstayed and that penalties were in order,” he recalled. The young entrepreneur’s situation quickly escalated, and he found himself in a position where he needed assistance.
In a bid to resolve the issue, Kennedy turned to his father, a prominent and influential political figure, hoping that his connections could offer a solution.
However, Kennedy Jnr. shared his surprise when his father’s response was not what he had anticipated. “I reached out to my dad, thinking he could use his influence to help me out of this. But instead, he told me to face the consequences and pay the fines,” Kennedy explained.
His father’s advice was clear: “Follow the law, son. Pay the fine and don’t try to bypass the system just because of who you are,” he had told him.
This response from Kennedy Agyapong, a man known for his outspoken nature and principled stance in politics, was a reminder of the values he holds dear. For Kennedy Jnr., however, it was a moment that illuminated a side of his father’s character that was not just about his public persona, but his commitment to integrity and discipline.
Kennedy Jnr. reflected on how the experience shaped his view of his father’s leadership. “It made me respect him even more,” he said. “While I may not have agreed with the decision at that moment, I now understand that it was about teaching me responsibility. He’s always been about doing things the right way, and this was no different.”
