Kasoa, Ghana – Drivers and residents within the Awutu Senya East Constituency, particularly in the bustling Kasoa township, are raising serious concerns over the widespread malfunctioning of traffic lights in the area. According to checks by BKB, not a single traffic light is currently operational across the entire constituency.

The situation, residents say, has turned daily commuting into a dangerous gamble. With no functioning signals to regulate traffic, both motorists and pedestrians are left vulnerable to accidents and congestion. The problem is further compounded by traders who have erected makeshift structures, obscuring some of the traffic light poles entirely.

“The traffic lights don’t work, and people are just relying on luck to cross roads or drive through intersections. It’s risky, especially for pedestrians,” one road user lamented.

While the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service is doing its best to manage traffic manually in some parts of Kasoa, the effort is insufficient. Several critical junctions lack any police presence, and with the traffic lights non-functional, chaos often ensues.

Drivers are calling on government authorities and relevant agencies to take immediate steps to restore and maintain the traffic light systems. They emphasize that prompt action is needed to prevent avoidable accidents and improve the overall safety of road users.

“This is a matter of public safety. We can’t keep risking lives because of something that can be fixed,” a concerned driver stressed.

Residents and commuters hope their voices will prompt swift intervention before the situation worsens further.
