In a crucial relegation battle on a wet Thursday evening in Tamale, Karela United emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over RTU, injecting hope into their fight against relegation.

The Mauve and Yellow got off to a dream start, taking the lead after just 9 minutes through striker Evans Adomako Wiredu, who slotted home after RTU failed to clear their lines.

RTU’s chances of a comeback were further diminished when in-form striker Issah Kuka limped off with an injury. The start of the second half was delayed due to the soggy pitch, but Karela’s tactics worked to perfection as they successfully nullified every attacking threat posed by RTU.

Ibrahim Tanko Shaibu’s lads held on for the remainder of the game, securing their first win of the season and moving up to 14th place on the league standings with 35 points, one point above the drop zone. RTU, meanwhile, sits in 11th place with 36 points.
