Karim Benzema may be heading back to Lyon after only seven months in Saudi Arabia.

After spending 14 years at the Bernabeu, the 36-year-old Real Madrid legend joined Al-Ittihad, the Saudi champions, last summer.

Karim Benzema’s return to Europe is already being mentioned.

He signed a rich contract of £85.9 million a season with the Middle Eastern team, and he gave them 15 goals in 24 appearances in return.

Al-Ittihad is lagging behind in the Saudi Pro League, even with an outstanding comeback in front of goal.

Also, there has been conjecture over his future since the January transfer market opened, with Chelsea being strongly linked to a bid for the French striker (who is under contract with Al-Ittihad until 2026).

According to RMC Sport, Lyon would prefer that Benzema rejoin the team he left behind in 2009.

During his first spell, he won four league titles while scoring 66 goals in 148 games for the Ligue 1 team.

It is acknowledged, meanwhile, that negotiations for the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner are still “very complicated”.

Lyon is likewise unable to compete with Al-Ittihad’s enormous payment for him.

Their interest in Benzema has surfaced just 48 hours after rumors that the striker’s 17-DAY late return to training infuriated Al-Ittihad management.

It was not until Thursday that he showed up for training, which was quite some time after he was supposed to return from the mid-season vacation.

Chiefs at Al-Ittihad will now hold internal talks on his future with the team.

Only a few days after Jordan Henderson joined Ajax from Al-Ettifaq, Karim Benzema is rumored to be heading out of Saudi Arabia quickly.

And by the end of the month, a number of other former European players may depart the Middle East due to the combination of social pressures, lack of support, and extreme heat.

Jota, a former Celtic player, and Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino are two possible departures from Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad.
