Speculations have been rife over who former Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, would choose as his running mate in the upcoming 2024 General Elections. However, insiders are whispering that Julius Debrah, Mahama’s former Chief of Staff and a seasoned politician, may be the one.
Debrah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has held several high-profile positions in government, including Minister of Local Government and Rural Development as well as Regional Minister for Eastern and Greater Accra Regions. His experience and political acumen make him a favourite among party elders and members.
Though Debrah has publicly denied lobbying for the position, close confidants of Mahama say Debrah and Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s names will be submitted to the party’s Council of Elders for their consideration.
Political analysts say that a combination of Mahama and Debrah could strengthen the NDC’s chances at the polls, given their track record of development and governance. Observers believe that Debrah’s political experience and vast network could be a major asset to the NDC in the upcoming election.
As the race towards 2024 heats up, political watchers are keenly observing the moves of the NDC and their rivals, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
