There is ongoing discussion regarding the high cost of internet access in Ghana. The persistent dialogue, particularly on social media, has become essential as data prices continue to rise steadily.
Numerous voices have joined this ongoing conversation, asserting that Ghana aspires to lead in digitalization. One advocate stated, “What Ghana requires for digital inclusion is a cost-effective data framework. If elected President, I will introduce tax incentives and other measures to significantly lower data costs. Making data more affordable is crucial for improving access to economic services.”
Similarly, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized the necessity for the country to address data costs. He argued that high data prices can hinder democratic participation as citizens may find it challenging to express their opinions.
“I fully support the Ghanaian people’s justified call for an immediate reduction in data costs. Access to data is not a luxury! Exorbitant data prices also weaken our democracy by excluding many citizens from participating in civic discourse,” he stressed.
