Heavy storm rips off school buildings at Obuasi; hundreds displaced

Hundreds of residents within the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region have been displaced after a heavy storm ripped off some properties including school buildings.

According to MyNewsGh.com reporters in the Ashanti Region, the incident which occurred on Thursday, March 29, 2024, affected the AGA Schools,  Koffikrom a suburb of Obuasi, and the Obuasi Senior Technical High School.

At Obuasi Senior Technical High School, the Headmaster, Mr. Ernest Wiafe disclosed that two (2) big trees were uprooted by the storm. At the same time, ‘Koo Antwi Barimah House’ (House 4) and its washrooms were completely ripped off with some parts of the Science Laboratory and two (2) of the forms three (3) classrooms together with other buildings which had one or few roofing sheets blown away by the storm.

In Koffikrom, a community which shares a boundary with Obuasi Senior Technical High School, about fifteen (15) houses were totally ripped off, while two houses also collapsed with no causalities or injuries recorded.
