The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced that the next operator of the Damang Mine will be selected through a competitive bidding process, following the expiration of the current lease held by Abosso Goldfields Ltd on April 18, 2026.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, the Ministry confirmed that Abosso Goldfields’ lease would end after a one-year extension. It emphasized the Damang Mine’s importance to Ghana’s national economy, highlighting its significant contribution to gold production, export earnings, and job creation.

To ensure a smooth transition, the government is taking steps to protect jobs, maintain service contracts, and reassure all stakeholders. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to secure a reliable investor through the bidding process, ensuring that the mine continues to support the nation’s development.

The Ministry also emphasized its commitment to transparency and responsible management throughout the transition process. It reassured the public that the Damang Mine would continue to deliver value for local communities and the country as a whole.

This move aims to strengthen Ghana’s mining sector while fostering sustainable, Ghanaian-led investment. The Ministry promised to continue engaging stakeholders throughout the process to ensure a seamless transition ahead of the lease expiry.
