Ghana’s Black Sharks secured a thrilling 5-3 victory over their Ivorian counterparts in the first leg of the 2024 Beach Soccer qualifier at the Keta Emancipation Beach Arena on Sunday.

Alfred Kwame Torsu opened the scoring for Ghana in the sixth minute, followed by a brace from Wise Nyamadi within five minutes. Ivory Coast managed to pull one back before the end of the first period.

The Black Sharks dominated much of the second half but were unable to capitalise on their chances. However, Ticor Kini’s two goals in the final period extended Ghana’s lead. Ivory Coast fought back with a penalty and a goal from Hans DjedDjed, but it was too little too late.

The victory has given Ghana a strong foundation heading into the second leg in Abidjan next weekend. Head Coach Daniel Neequaye Kotey emphasized the need for focus and discipline: “We have to stay focused and disciplined,” he said. “The job isn’t done yet. We need to replicate our performance next weekend and stay focused as a team.”

With a two-goal advantage, Ghana is in a favourable position but remains wary of the challenges that lie ahead. The second leg promises to be a fierce battle as both teams vie for a spot in the 2024 Beach Soccer AFCON in Egypt.
