President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced a significant development for Ghana’s economy, revealing plans to kickstart large-scale salt production. This initiative stems from the Ada Songhor Salt project, led by Electrochem Salt Mine Limited. After years of disputes impeding progress, the project has finally commenced, promising transformative outcomes for the nation.
During Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebrations in Koforidua, Eastern Region, on March 6, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the project’s potential impact. He highlighted Electrochem Salt Mine’s ambition to become Africa’s largest salt production facility, projecting a capacity of two million metric tonnes by 2027.
President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism about the project’s economic implications, citing the current production capacity of 650,000 metric tons per annum, set to increase to one million metric tonnes this year and double to two million metric tonnes by 2027, all at 99.99% purity. This ambitious endeavor promises a significant boost to Ghana’s economy and marks a milestone in the nation’s industrial development.
