The most recent data released by the Ghana Statistical Service indicates a decline in inflation, with February’s rate resting at 23.2%, marking a 0.3 percentage point reduction from January’s 23.5%.
During a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, Government Statistician Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim elaborated on the figures, highlighting that the 23.2% represents an escalation in the prices of goods and services over a one-year period.
Prof. Anim stated, “The February inflation rate has decreased to 23.2%. This means that over the course of a year, prices of goods and services have increased by 23.2%. This figure contrasts with the slight increase observed in January 2024 when the previously steady seven-month decline saw a marginal uptick to 23.5%. However, we have managed to reverse this increase for January 2024, bringing it down to 23.2%.”
According to the Consumer Price Index data provided by the GSS, food and non-food inflation rates were recorded at 27.0% and 20.0% respectively for February 2024.
Prof. Anim further noted, “From the standpoint of food and non-food inflation, the figures for February 2024 show food inflation at 27.0% and non-food inflation at 20.0%.”
