Ghana Free Zones Authority Engages with Data Protection Commission
The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) hosted a delegation from the Data Protection Commission (DPC) of Ghana, the regulatory body mandated to enforce the nation’s data protection and privacy laws. The delegation, led by the Acting Executive Director, Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, paid a working visit to the Authority to share insights on the Commission’s mandate and explore potential areas of collaboration.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Mary Awusi, Chief Executive Officer of the GFZA, expressed appreciation for the visit and outlined opportunities for partnership, including facilitating the Commission’s engagement with Free Zones Enterprises and providing a platform during training sessions for newly licensed enterprises.
Dr. Awusi noted that, while the Authority is already registered with the Commission, additional training would be valuable in equipping GFZA officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure compliance, safeguard data, and protect privacy.
Dr. Kavaarpuo, in turn, assured Dr. Awusi and her management team of the DPC’s commitment to professionalism and to building a stronger partnership. Both institutions agreed that closer collaboration will advance effective data protection policies, strengthen operational security, and foster a culture of compliance — creating an enabling environment for technology and innovation to flourish.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy CEO for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, and other directors of the GFZA.
