Ghana coach Chris Hughton has made a key change to his starting lineup for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 Group B clash against Mozambique.
Belgium-based winger Joseph Paintsil has been drafted in to replace Inaki Williams for the do-or-die encounter, which takes place on Monday night at the Stade Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe, north Abidjan.
Paintsil is set to operate on the right side of Ghana’s attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The move represents a tactical shift for the Black Stars, who have struggled to find their rhythm in the tournament so far.
Despite the change in personnel, the rest of Ghana’s lineup remains unaltered. The backline, consisting of Denis Odoi, Gideon Mensah, Alexander Djiku, and Salisu Mohammed, retains its familiar look, providing a solid foundation for the team’s attacking endeavours.
In midfield, Abdul Samed Salis and Majeed Ashimeru will continue their partnership, offering a blend of experience and youthful energy.
Behind them, Mohammed Kudus will play the anchor role, supporting lone striker Antoine Semenyo, who Jordan Ayew and Paintsil will flank.
Ghana’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages hang in the balance following draws against Egypt and Cape Verde in their opening two fixtures.
A win against Mozambique is imperative if the Black Stars are to keep alive their dreams of lifting the coveted continental trophy.
Kickoff for the highly anticipated showdown is slated for 8 PM local time.
