The National Identification Authority (NIA) in its press release noted their readiness to ensure almost all citizens of the country have acquired their Ghana card to intensify the digitization agenda.
In a statement signed by the Ag. Head of Corporate Affairs of the NIA, Col. Peter Kwame Ghansah (Rtd) dated June 11, 2023, revealed that the National Identification Authority (NIA) has offered 5 additional premium registration centers to the existing ones effective Monday, 12th June 2023 indicating that the premium registration centers will offer First-time registration and issuance of a Ghana Card at a cost of Gh¢280.00 and a cost of Gh¢110 for replacement of lost, missing. or damaged cards and update of personal records that requires the printing of a new card.
Responding to this in a discussion on High Radio Breakfast show dubbed High Morning Breeze chaired by Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Mr. Joshua Asante, an NPP communication team member in the Tano South Constituency acknowledged the efforts of the National Identification Authority in ensuring the masses get the identification cards to streamline digital activities in the country.
He stated that the establishment of Premium registration centers in a quest to get more persons enrolled in the Ghana cards system is a genuine idea but pleaded with the authority to review the charges against the program, the amount he described as outrageous which will hinder the smooth running of the whole program.
Mr. Joshua Asante added that the National Identification Authority during the initial stages of the program ensured mass and cluster registration of Ghana Cards for the people hence most citizens in the country obtained their cards with only a few people without the card as a result of some technical hitches and the continuous issuance of negative information about the program by section of NDC party members and executives that according to him hindered the smooth running of the program
He finally pleaded with the Leadership of the authority to ensure the effective running of the district offices to ensure the needy also get access to the Ghana card registration despite the creation of premium offices.
