Adjei Samuel Oko, a voter at Assin North constituency, has cautioned the youth of Assin North against selling their vote for a paltry sum of GH¢40.00 in the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the constituency. In a statement, Samuel, popularly known as Soadjei, urged young voters to resist any attempts at vote-buying and instead focus on choosing the best candidate to represent their interests in Parliament.
“Your vote is your power, and you should not sell it for a mere GH¢40.00. By doing so, you give away your ability to influence the direction of the country and the decisions that are made on your behalf,” Soadjei said.
The statement comes amid reports of vote-buying and other electoral malpractice in the run-up to the by-election, which was necessitated by the ruling of supreme court which was against the incumbent MP, James Gyakye Quayson. Some political parties have been accused of engaging in illegal activities in an effort to secure victory in the hotly contested race.
Soadjei cautioned the youth of Assin North against falling for the empty promises and deceptive tactics of such parties, urging them to remain vigilant and informed throughout the electoral process.
“You have a duty to yourself, your community, and your country to make an informed decision when you enter the polling booth. Don’t be swayed by false promises or empty gestures – look at the track record and the qualifications of each candidate, and choose the one who has your best interests at heart,” he added.
Soadjei’s call for responsible and informed voting has been met with widespread support from young voters in Assin North, many of whom have expressed frustration with the corruption and malfeasance that has plagued Ghanaian politics for decades.
As the by-election approaches, it remains to be seen whether Soadjei’s message will be heeded by the youth of Assin North. However, his call for integrity and accountability in Ghana’s electoral process serves as a reminder that true democracy is built on the foundation of informed and responsible citizenship.
