In an unprecedented turn of events, the Senya Beraku Simpapebiso Electoral Area witnessed a groundbreaking victory as Kobena Domotey, affectionately known as Bro Ebo International, emerged triumphant in the district assembly election. Breaking barriers, Mr. Domotey secured a staggering 648 votes, commanding a remarkable 69.47% of the total votes.

The electoral landscape unfolded with Zark Bentum receiving 255 votes (27.34%) and Osei Bonsu garnering 20 votes (2.14%). Mr. Domotey’s triumph not only marked a significant political shift but also debunked attempts to diminish his candidacy based on his occupation as a fisherman and alleged illiteracy.

Facing initial adversity that sought to exploit his profession, Mr. Domotey’s opponent resorted to derogatory terms like ‘opowni’ (fisherman). However, this backfired as the majority of the electorate, predominantly composed of fishing industry workers, rallied behind Mr. Domotey, expressing their dissatisfaction with being taken for granted by traditional literates.

The victory not only symbolized a changing of the guard but also reclaimed the seat once occupied by his younger brother, Hon. Joseph Bennie (Scanty). Post-declaration, jubilation erupted across Senya Beraku, with celebratory scenes portraying the essence of fishing activities. Chants of ‘Opowni’ echoed, signifying a collective desire for representation beyond conventional literates.

Some celebrants humorously claimed that even the fishes in the ocean cast their votes, attributing Bro Ebo’s win to widespread support. The winning candidate proudly affiliates with the New Patriotic Party, setting the stage for Mr. Eugene Arhin’s anticipated 2024 Awutu Senya West seat contest.
