TEXT: Matthew 11:28-20 (Open Your Bible and Read this scripture)

MEMORY VERSE:
“For we which have believed do enter into rest” (Hebrews 4:3)

In our busy lives, we often long for rest. We look forward to weekends, vacations, and breaks from work so we can recharge and relax. But true rest is more than just ceasing from physical labour. As Christians, we can find rest in Christ, which is much deeper and more satisfying than any other form of rest.

The Sabbath was instituted by God to point us to something greater and better, not to a particular day as a means to salvation and worship. The word “sabbath” means “rest,” and Jesus is the true Sabbath. When we give our lives to Christ and believe that through Him we have rested from our work of seeking salvation from the law and by our own effort and labour, we enter God’s rest.

Jesus says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…and ye shall find rest unto your soul” (Matt 11:28). When we accept Him as the means of salvation and rest from labour, we find true rest for our souls.

Having rest for your soul as Jesus promised means that you can have peace and freedom from the burdens of sin, guilt, and shame. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you no longer have to strive for your own salvation and righteousness. Instead, you can rest in His finished work on the cross and trust that He has paid the penalty for your sins. This gives you an inner peace that cannot be found in anything else. Furthermore, you can find joy and contentment in all circumstances, trust that God is in control and that He will provide for all your needs. This frees you to enjoy the present moment and to serve others without fear or hesitation.

Let us pray:
Dear Lord, we thank you for the gift of rest that we find in Christ. Help us to trust in Him and find our true rest in Him alone. May we not be burdened by the cares of this world or the expectations of others but find peace in Christ’s finished work on the cross. We pray for those who are weary and burdened today, that they may come to know the rest that can only be found in Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.
