Ex-Chelsea player Marcos Alonso’s transfer to Barcelona is a complete bust.

Due to the unsatisfactory start to his Barcelona career, Marcos Alonso may soon be let go.

Alonso left Chelsea for the Catalan club in the summer of 2022, but he hasn’t made an impression since.

 

Although Barcelona has the option to extend Marcos Alonso’s contract, the player is reportedly contemplating leaving the club.

 

Alonso left Chelsea at the end of the 2021–2022 season to join Barcelona.

 

This season, Alonso has only started two La Liga games; in one of those, he was replaced at halftime by 16-year-old Lamine Yamal.

Barca has a contract with the full-back that runs through the end of the current campaign, but they have the option to extend it by one more year.

The European powerhouses, according to Spanish publication Sport, have essentially decided not to renew Alonso’s contract.

There are rumors that no choice will be made official until the January transfer window closes.

 

However, even if Barcelona were interested in keeping the former Blue, he would need to accept a significant pay cut.

Alonso is anticipated to get several offers from other teams, and a departure from the storied club is probable.

Despite playing a significant amount of minutes the previous season, the 32-year-old has dropped in manager Xavi’s hierarchy this season.

Academy-made item The Barcelona manager has instead chosen Alejandro Balde to start at left back.

 

At the conclusion of the season, Alonso won’t be the only player given the opportunity to leave.

Sergi Roberto’s contract expires in June as well, and it is anticipated that he will meet the same end as his colleague.

Even though he received the captain’s armband, played for Barcelona his entire career, and amassed over 350 matches, it’s believed he won’t be staying at the Nou Camp.

 

Sergi Roberto is also expected to leave Barcelona.
