The electricity Distribution companies in Ghana recently embarked on a mass debt recovery strategy which has resulted in the retrieval of the highest sum of monies from customers with other state and private own companies being disconnected over unpaid electricity tariffs.
Commenting on this in a panel discussion on High Radio morning Show dubbed High Morning Breeze, a Communication team member for the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Tano South Constituency of the Ahafo region Mr. Oga Kwashiga Arjololo has expressed that the exercise being conducted by the ECG, NEDCo, and other electricity distribution companies in the country in ensuring their debts are recovered from customers is a nice initiative since some users of electricity have decided not to pay their bills but insisted that they must ensure the delivery of quality and effective services to their clients which according to him will compel them to willingly pay bills on time to prevent bills accumulation.
He bemoaned how power fluctuations in the country keep destroying properties and other electrical gadgets in various homes which sometimes irritates customers on the payment of bills for unsatisfactory services being rendered.
Mr. Kwashiga added that electricity distribution companies must keenly follow the companies in the country and stop the continuous distraction of the ordinary citizen on light bills indicating that the companies use more electric power and pay fewer bills hence there is a need for their debts to be retrieved constantly.
He also urged the president to reduce the taxes he has levied against these companies which according to him mostly affect their finances and lead to their inability to fully pay for their electricity bills
On his side, Hon. Hon Isaac Osei Bonsu, Former Assembly Member For Atekyem electoral area in the Tano South constituency and also a communication team member for the ruling NPP blamed the authorities of the various electricity distribution companies for their failure to recover their debts on time but left it to be accumulated to this extent before taking action.
He has therefore called on authorities and the citizenry to work hand in hand to ensure that each and everyone plays their roles well to generate electricity for the development of the country.
