Electoral Deaths: Police pressed for progress on investigations

Ghana’s Peace Council has reminded the Ghana Police that it is waiting for action to be taken on the eight deaths recorded in the 2020 elections.

According to the council, the perpetrators must be brought to justice to deter others from engaging in such barbaric acts going forward.

The Peace Council made this known while training political party representatives on the need to choose peace over violence when tension erupts.

Rev. Nua Ben Abubakar who spoke at the event said “Our previous presidential and parliamentary saw the loss of eight precious lives of which we are all waiting for the police to take punitive action,” he said.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament of Techiman South whose constituency recorded violence and deaths have said that they are regrettable.

He indicated while he was being vetted by Parliament that there is absolute peace in the Techiman South constituency ahead of the 2024 elections and was absolutely sure that they will have a peaceful election.

“It was a very regrettable and sad event. It should not have happened under any circumstance and I don’t expect it to happen again going forward because of the lessons we have learnt,” he said when he appeared before the Appointments Committee for his vetting in Parliament.

“A lot of lessons have been learned and we have come together even much more before that unfortunate incident. I relate very well with the families of the deceased and we have helped them to get back on life,” he said when he appeared before the vetting committee o Tuesday, March 5, 2024
