Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu, the Constituency Youth Organizer for the NDC in Ablekuma Central, has raised important questions about the current limited registration process. According to him, it appears that the Electoral Commission (EC) and the President are orchestrating the registration to align with their preferences.

Amenyeawu revealed that, due to budget constraints, the EC initially contemplated holding the registration in a small room. This prompted party leaders to take matters into their own hands, renting chairs and canopies to set up an outdoor registration center.

On the first day of registration, only 24 people managed to register, primarily due to technical challenges with the EC’s machines. This slow start has fueled concerns that the ongoing registration process may disenfranchise some citizens, as Amenyeawu believes.

He further noted that the current limited registration process differs significantly from previous ones, where there were up to 6000 registration centers across Ghana. In 2020, the EC utilized only 47 centers, which accounted for just 40% of the previous capacity. This limitation may hinder the EC from achieving its registration targets for this year.”
