Four Chiefs and a queen mother from the Kwatwoma Traditional area in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region have been accused of contempt of court due to the gazetting of Mr Kwaku Bosea Yeboah as the Paramount Chief of the area.
A motion has been filed by Nana Obiri Boahen of the ‘Enso Nyame Ye Chambers,’ a legal firm based in Sunyani, with the applicants seeking to have the Kumasi High Court imprison the respondents, including Mr Yeboah.
The other respondents mentioned in the motion are Nana Amankwah, the Benkumhene (left-wing chief) of the traditional area, Nana Tafowaa, the Queen Mother of the Asiedu Royal Family, Nana Kwabena Kom, the ‘Ekonahene’ (war chief) of the traditional area, and Nana Kwasi Boahen, the ‘Abakomahene’ of the traditional area.
According to the writ, the applicants accuse the respondents of willfully and deliberately attempting to scandalize and expose the administration of justice to public ridicule and contempt, conduct that undermines the integrity of justice.
The plaintiffs argue that the respondents have shown intentional and malicious disregard for court processes, particularly the “motion on notice for interlocutory” filed on June 16, 2022, which is still pending regarding the chieftaincy petition before a judicial committee.
The petitioners include Nana Boahen Korkor, the Chief of Adamsu and ‘Kurontirehene’ of the Kwatwoma Traditional Area, Nana Osei Yaw, the Adehyepanin (royal elder) of the Atomase royal family, and Nana Kupor, the head of Atomase royal family.
The writ states that the respondents must be held accountable for promoting and facilitating Mr Yeboah to represent himself as the paramount chief, despite the pending interlocutory injunction and chieftaincy petition.
The case was adjourned until Thursday, June 29, 2023, and the respondents appeared before Justice Mary Quansah at Kumasi High Court Six.
