MAURICIO POCHETTINO believes Chelsea will score more goals as a result of Christopher Nkunku’s quick recuperation from injury.

During Chelsea’s preseason tour of the United States, the £56 million attacker had a knee injury. However, he has returned to training this week and may play again next month.

Christopher Nkunku, a £56 million acquisition, has a return date set by Mauricio Pochettino.

With just Manchester United having scored less goals than his team this season, Pochettino is aware that his team needs to score more frequently.

The 25-year-old French striker scored 23 goals for RB Leipzig in all competitions last season.

“He is doing really, really well,” stated Pochettino.

“He is putting in a lot of effort at work. I believe that he is quite close. I’m hoping we can get him participating again as soon as possible. He is a crucial member of our team.

“He might get involved after the next international. Perhaps, it is uncertain.

“He is a player who can score goals, and we need goals badly.

“We always believe it’s a player that can be vital to us because of this.

“We have an other attacking player, and he demonstrated that he can score goals in a league like the Bundesliga.

“Today with maybe 8-10 goals from Nkunku this situation is completely different because they are the goals we are missing to be in a different position.”

Pochettino’s team would benefit from Nkunku’s early comeback, and the Blues might avoid having to spend additional money in January.

Although Pochettino has begun making plans for the winter transfer window, he has not yet determined if he will need to add a new striker.

“Football is really dynamic,” he continued. Perhaps three or two weeks ago, our perspectives were different.

“We’re trying to be ready and we’re preparing, working with the owners and sporting directors.

“The moment the transfer window is open, we can see if the team needs, if the squad needs to add some players in the position we are talking, an offensive position.”
