Days before the competition, Lesley Ugochukwu of France’s Olympic squad was called up by CHELSEA.

On Wednesday, the host country kicks off their campaign against the USA in Marseille.

Chelsea has summoned up Lesley Ugochukwu from the French Olympic squad.

Thierry Henry had substituted the midfield player for the competition.

During the group stage, Thierry Henry’s team will also play New Zealand and Guinea.

They won’t be able to do so, though, without Ugochukwu following his return to Chelsea.

According to a statement confirming his recall, Lesley Ugochukwu has withdrawn from consideration for the Olympics.

The midfield player will not be included in the reserves for the Olympic competition in Paris in 2024 as he is departing the French Olympic Team this Friday, July 19.

Lesley Ugochukwu will permanently depart the French Olympic football squad and will no longer be available as a reserve, after a request from Chelsea FC.

“The technical staff is expecting a response from the organizers regarding their request to replace him. Thus, there are twenty-one players in the present group.”

Ugochukwu was one of four substitutes despite not being selected for the initial 18-man roster.

If a player on the team is hurt, replacements can participate in the competition at any point.

Malo Gusto and Benoit Badiashile had previously been denied calls up for the Olympics by Chelsea.

Prior to their preseason USA trip, which includes a matchup with Real Madrid, Ugochukwu rejoins the Blues.

The 20-year-old might not be involved, though, if he decides to leave Stamford Bridge.

Three Premier League teams are presently interested in signing the midfield player on loan from Chelsea, as reported by the Metro.

Last July, Ugochukwu signed a £23 million contract with Rennes that lasted until 2030.

Prior to missing six months due to a hamstring injury in December, he made 13 appearances.

Ugochukwu returned to action in May and went on to play twice more off the bench after the layoff.

This summer, Ugochukwu is anticipated to be loaned to a Premier League team.
