An investigation has been opened by CHELSEA into a video that Enzo Fernandez posted to social media.
The French Football Federation (FFF) claims that the video, in which Fernandez and several of his Argentina teammates are seen shouting a song disparaging the French national team, is racist.

After being posted live on Fernendez’s Instagram, the video rapidly became quite popular online.
Wesley Fofana, Fernandez’s Chelsea teammate, criticized the video on X, writing, “Football in 2024: uninhibited racism”.
In contrast, the FFF has said in a statement that it will bring legal action about the comments made by the Argentina players in the video.
“The unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks which were made against the French team in the context of a song sung by players and supporters of the Argentina team after its Copa America victory and broadcast in a video on social media are strongly condemned,” the statement stated. Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation, also signed it.
“Faced with the seriousness of these shocking remarks, contrary to the values of sport and human rights, the president of the FFF decided to directly challenge his Argentinian counterpart and FIFA, and to file a legal complaint for insulting remarks of a racist and discriminatory nature.”
Chelsea has not yet made an official statement.
The video was shot after Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America.
The disgusting song that the Argentina players are singing is thought to have its origins in the 2022 World Cup, when Argentina defeated France on penalties in the championship game.
During a live broadcast, a group of South American supporters sang that the players for France were “all from Angola.”
The portion about Angola that Fernandez and a few of his teammates sang could be heard in the video.
Fofana, a French international with an Ivorian father, condemned the video on X.
Numerous French players, including as Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Malo Gusto, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Lesley Ugochukwu, play for Chelsea.
Fernandez’s Instagram account has apparently been unfollowed by a number of the West London club’s players.
There are several Premier League players in the Argentina roster.
These players include Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez and Alejando Garnacho, Julian Alvarez of Man City, Alexis Mac Allister, a midfielder for Liverpool, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham.
Whether any of them participated in the chanting is unknown.
