The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced an increase in prize money for the winners of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup as part of efforts to boost club football across the continent.
The announcement was communicated on Monday, March 9, 2026, by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Under the new structure, the winners of the CAF Champions League will now receive $6 million, up from the previous $4 million, representing a $2 million increase. Meanwhile, the winners of the CAF Confederation Cup will take home $4 million, doubling the previous prize of $2 million.

According to CAF, the adjustment forms part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening African club competitions, improving financial sustainability for clubs, and making continental tournaments more competitive.

The new prize money structure is expected to take effect from the 2025/26 season, with CAF stating that the total financial support to clubs participating in its competitions will significantly increase.
The decision is seen as a major boost for clubs across Africa, including teams from Ghana competing in CAF interclub tournaments, as it offers greater financial rewards and incentives for success on the continental stage.
