Former NPP Greater Accra Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, Raises Alarm Over Potential Election Interference by Regional Minister
Moses Abor, the former Greater Accra Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, has submitted a formal complaint to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Dampare, expressing concerns about possible election interference by the Greater Accra Regional Minister and sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. Henry Quartey.
Abor alleges that Hon. Henry Quartey, also a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso Central, is planning to deploy unauthorized security personnel to disrupt the election process scheduled for January 27, 2024, in his favor.
In the formal complaint, Abor states, “The Greater Accra Regional Minister intends to employ private security personnel and personnel from the Ghana Police Service who owe allegiance to him to intimidate and harass delegates whom he perceives as my supporters on the said day. I also have information that during counting, he intends to unleash hooligans to snatch ballot papers and possibly burn them to halt the process if it goes otherwise.”
The complaint further alleges that Abor’s team has uncovered a plan by the Regional Minister to insert pre-marked ballot papers into the ballot boxes during the voting process.
“As law-abiding citizens, we do not intend to take the law into our own hands. We, therefore, petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take a special interest in the elections of Ayawaso Central and deploy professional police personnel to the venue on the voting day to avoid clashes and ensure the election is free and fair,” Abor urged in his complaint.
The former NPP Greater Accra Youth Organiser and his team await prompt action from the Inspector General of Police to address their concerns and safeguard the integrity of the upcoming elections in Ayawaso Central.
