The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are involved in a heated exchange of accusations concerning vote buying as the Assin North by-election approaches on Tuesday, June 27.
NDC
The NDC’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the NPP of purchasing votes by allegedly providing fertilizers and state-owned knapsack sprayers to voters.
In a Facebook post, Gyamfi expressed his views, stating, “Corrupt NPP government desperately seeking to buy votes in Assin North with state-owned knapsack sprayers and fertilizers. Consignment currently en route to Ningo, Gangan, Ayittey, and other NDC strongholds.”
He also claimed that high-ranking NPP members, including NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua, were orchestrating these vote-buying efforts. Gyamfi further shared videos as alleged evidence of the ruling NPP government’s misuse of taxpayers’ money for election purposes.

In response, the NPP’s National Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, countered the accusations by alleging that the NDC had established depots in Assin North to distribute goods aimed at enticing potential voters.
Mr Ahiagbah shared a one-minute video on Facebook, showing individuals being handed machetes and items in polythene bags, alongside his post which read, “Here is one of the sharing depots of the National Democratic Congress. Now, watch them deny and point false accusing fingers at others after doing this. The NPP is focused and canvassing for the votes we need for victory on June 27th.”
The Assin North Constituency seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling that led to the removal of James Gyakye Quayson from parliamentary proceedings due to his dual citizenship status. Consequently, a by-election will be conducted to fill the vacant seat.
