In the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held its elections on Saturday, May 13, 2023, to select their Parliamentary Candidates and Flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 General Election.
According to their constitution, new Parliamentary candidates are elected every four years in all 276 constituencies, along with a new Presidential candidate.
In this constituency, there were two aspirants: MR. WILLIAM ADU-ODURO and the Incumbent MP, HON. ALHAJI ALHASSAN KOBINA GHANSAH. The election took place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and a total of 1,360 delegates participated in the voting process.
These delegates included branch executives, constituency executives, former appointees, and regional executives who were eligible to vote in the constituency.
During interviews with the delegates, opinions were divided. Some were in favor of maintaining the Incumbent MP, emphasizing the importance of allowing him to continue his work, as they believed he had unfinished business as an MP. On the other hand, some delegates supported changing the Incumbent MP, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Kobina Ghansah, citing his alleged failure to provide job opportunities for the youth.
The final results for the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency were as follows:
Former President H.E. John Dramani Mahama received 1,282 votes in the presidential race, while Kojo Bosu obtained 19 votes. Additionally, there were 15 rejected votes.
In the parliamentary race, Mr. William Adu-Oduro secured 271 votes, but the Incumbent MP, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Kobina Ghansah, emerged as the winner with 1,052 votes. Consequently, he will be the Parliamentary Candidate for the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency under the NDC in the upcoming 2024 General Election.
