Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been formally installed as a Lay Canon at the St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral in the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.
The ceremony, officiated by Rt. Rev. Felix Odei Annancy, was attended by senior clergy and distinguished figures within the Anglican Church, including Most Rev. Gershon Allottey Okine, former Archbishop of the Province of West Africa, Most Rev. Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, and Rt. Rev. George Neequaye, Anglican Bishop of Tema.
The event, which drew a large crowd of congregants, traditional authorities, parliamentarians, and former ministers from Akufo-Addo’s administration, was described as both historic and joyous by church leaders.
During the ceremony, Akufo-Addo took the oath of allegiance, committing to serve the Church with dedication and integrity. He also affirmed his adherence to the doctrine and discipline of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua, in line with the constitution of the Church of the Province of West Africa.
Special prayers were offered for the former President, asking for divine guidance and strength in his new role. Rt. Rev. Annancy emphasized that the installation was a recognition of Akufo-Addo’s service and commitment to the Church, urging him to continue supporting its mission.
This significant event highlights the continued integration of faith and service in public life as Akufo-Addo assumes his new role within the Anglican Church.
