President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo revealed that his success as the leader of Ghana stems from three core principles that have guided his leadership: unity, democracy, and shared global responsibility. He made these remarks after receiving the prestigious Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award during a ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City on September 23, 2024.

The event honored global figures, including Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Korean media pioneer Miky Lee, alongside President Akufo-Addo.

In his acceptance speech, President Akufo-Addo expressed that the award was not only a personal achievement but a recognition of the resilience and strength of the Ghanaian people.

“This moment cannot just be about me. It is about the people of Ghana who inspire me with their resilience, their strength, and unwavering belief in a brighter future. They are the true global citizens, and I accept this award on their behalf,” he said.

He further expressed gratitude to Kenyan President William Ruto, who presented him with the award, describing him as a leader from a new generation of African leadership with great promise for the continent.
