The broadcast right for any event especially as big as the African Games is acquired by a Media Company and not a media company being paid to broadcast.

Olympic Games, AFCON, AFRICAN Games are some of the top international sporting competitions.

It is therefore quite shocking that Ghana government claims to have paid $3m to GBC for the broadcast right of the Africa Games.

The African Games was expected to generate 2 billion audience, according to the Minister of Sports in Parliament.

How then was the rights to broadcast same not sold but rather pay a media organization to broadcast it for free?

Media rights of such events is a matter of intense competition among media houses ready to pay.

The same GBC was ready to pay $5.5million for the Broadcast Right of the Ghana Premier League.

There were over 40 national TV stations across Africa that did broadcast the games in their respective countries with GBC’s feed.

Did they broadcast that for free?

South African Media giants DSTV did broadcast the Games. Was it for free?

I have the marketing brochure of the Games where GBC was charging up to a million dollar for an advertising slot during the African Games.

So how did government rather, and not GBC, pay for Broadcast right?

Unless there are extraordinary arrangements we do not understand.

These are clearly questions that demand some answers.

Quiet startling though.
