The first step towards enjoying life is to stop poisoning it for yourself.
đ A happy life is a building with three dimensions: material, interpersonal, and emotional. In other words, to be a happy person, you need to achieve your goals while maintaining a good reputation and relationships with people, without sacrificing your inner harmony. đĄ
Decide that things are going well for you đ»
It’s not that simple. As the famous French philosopher Alain wrote: “One must want to be happy and make efforts towards it. Standing as an impartial observer with the doors wide open, waiting for happiness to enter, will only invite sadness.” It’s always easier to succumb to unhappinessâit requires less psychological energy. To prolong well-being, on the other hand, takes effort. Generally, people differ in how capable they are of feeling happy, but some factors are common to all humanity: it seems that evolution favors the development of negative emotions, as they increase the chances of survival of the species. đ§Ź
Donât allow yourself to be sad for too long đ«
Since negative emotions only occur occasionally, are short-lived, and do not disrupt our daily life too much, one might expect them to pass on their own. However, flirting with misery, as was customary among the Romantics of the 19th century, is unsafe, and today psychology is beginning to better understand this risk. đ
Savor moments of happiness đ
The best (and most enjoyable) weapon against unhappiness is to derive as much pleasure as possible from the happy moments that fate gives us. A superb vaccine against feeling miserable is to enjoy happiness, striving to make this feeling stronger, more powerful, and vivid. đ
