According to Wayne Rooney, in the past, he would “spend days at home drinking until he almost passed out.”
That was during his early 20s, when he found it difficult to handle “challenges.”

Wazza, 38, has an incredible club and international career under his belt, making him one of England’s best players.
When Rooney made his Everton debut in 2002, he was only sixteen years old.
And Manchester United signed the striker for a then-record £27 million when he was just eighteen.
Before concluding his playing career with stints at Everton, DC United, and Derby, Rooney spent 13 years at Old Trafford.
But he has now acknowledged his difficulties during his early years at Old Trafford, despite winning five titles and a Champions League.
In an interview with rugby league star Rob Burrows, the current Birmingham manager disclosed how drinking alcohol helped him deal with the strain of representing United.
Rooney was also facing off-field difficulties at the time.
And he courageously revealed how he tried to drown the agony by consuming large amounts of booze.
“I’ve had many different challenges, both on and off the field,” Rooney stated, “and alcohol was my release.”
“In my early twenties, I used to spend a few days at home, not leave the house, and drink almost till I passed out.
“I didn’t want to be around people because you feel like you’ve let people down and sometimes you feel embarrassed.”
Ultimately, I turned to alcohol in an attempt to try and get through it because I didn’t know how else to handle it.
“I could have talked to anyone there, but I decided against it and attempted to handle things on my own.
“You can really be in a low place when you do that and don’t take the aid and direction of others, and I was for a few years with that.
“Thank goodness, I no longer feel frightened to approach people and discuss some concerns I may have.”
